Strong interest shown in Coronation Power’s wind farm proposals

17 November 2006

More than 500 people visited Coronation Power’s three exhibitions of its wind farm proposals for the Rochdale area. The exhibitions, held over the past fortnight, related to Coronation Power’s proposed wind farm developments at Crook Hill, near Wardle; Reaps Moss, near Bacup and Todmorden Moor, Todmorden.

Visitors to the exhibitions had the opportunity to see a computer generated virtual reality display of each wind farm site, see the proposed location of the wind turbines, talk with members of the Coronation team about the different aspects of each scheme and learn more about the potential economic and environmental benefits to the area if the wind farms are built.

Charley Rattan, Coronation Power’s Community Relations Manager said: “We were delighted with the interest shown in each of the exhibitions and we were asked a lot of questions. It was useful to hear what people had to say about our plans – both for and against, with regard to the immediate area, wind farm generation and the broader issues of climate change and global warming. The Stern Report, which was published on the eve of our exhibition in Bacup, was a timely reminder that action on global change, through the development of more renewable sources of energy as well as making changes to the way we live and work, can no longer be avoided.”

Charley added: “For those who were unable to attend the exhibition and are interested in knowing more about the proposed schemes, please either write to us or visit our website www.coronationpower.com. We are very willing to meet with local groups and explain our plans.”

Following the exhibitions, Coronation Power will now be seeking planning permission to build the three wind farms. It is Coronation’s intention to submit three planning applications before the end of the year to Rossendale Council (Reaps Moss wind farm), Calderdale Council (Todmorden Moor & Crook Hill wind farms) and Rochdale Council (Crook Hill wind farm).
