Community majority in support of Reaps Moss wind farm
26th November 2007
The Rossendale Council Planning Department is recommending against the proposed Reaps Moss wind farm despite popular support from the local community. With 1,325 letters in support of the wind farm and only 840 against, there is a clear majority in favour of the 3 turbine, 9MW scheme.
"We would like to publically thank the community for their support. In return, we'd like to show our appreciation by contesting the planning department's recommendation for refusal" says Coronation Power's PR Officer, Danielle Milne. "There is a strong public desire to build this wind farm. It will up to the Council to decide whether to support the people or the planning officer. We hope they listen to the majority of their community who support the wind farm."
Rossendale Council will rule on the proposed Reaps Moss wind farm on 28th November 2007. "Giving planning permission to the Reaps Moss wind farm is democratic. If the Council are out of touch with the very people they represent, we will champion their cause and go to appeal. We feel we have a duty to those 1,325 people who wrote letters in support of the Reaps Moss wind farm and will fight for their voices to be heard," says Milne.
This show of local support for wind farms is not uncommon. Polls nationally clearly demonstrate that the majority of people support wind farms. It is also known that anti campaigners are nothing more than a 'vocal minority'. The letters of support confirm that the local community want the Reaps Moss wind farm.
