Coronation Power to submit revised planning application for todmorden moor windfarm
24 November 2009
Coronation Power has confirmed that it will submit a revised planning application for its wind farm on Todmorden Moor, located north east of Bacup and west of Todmorden in east Lancashire. Coronation Power expects to submit its application to Calderdale Council, the local planning authority, early next year.
The decision by Coronation Power to resubmit its plans is a direct result of the refusal by the Secretary of State for Department of Communities & Local Government to approve Coronation’s planning application, which was subject to an independent public inquiry earlier this year. Whilst the Planning Inspector did not have any concerns about the environmental or visual impact of the Todmorden Moor wind farm, he rejected Coronation Power’s appeal as the site boundary was incorrectly marked on the planning application map.
Vickram Mirchandani, Managing Director of Coronation Power said: “We accept the Secretary of State’s decision to refuse our appeal due to a technical error on our part. However, we were heartened to see that the Planning Inspector did not see any other reason to reject our application after very careful consideration. He determined that our proposal for Todmorden Moor, and our approved projects at nearby Crook Hill and Reaps Moss, would not affect the overall landscape character of the South Pennines, and were wholly consistent with local and national planning policies. Given his positive conclusions, we will amend our plans for Todmorden Moor and resubmit the planning application for Calderdale Council to determine.”
The Planning Inquiry was prompted by Coronation Power’s decision to appeal against Calderdale Council’s failure to determine the company’s planning applications for the 5 turbine within the specified timeframe.
The proposed Todmorden Moor wind farm would have a generating capacity of approximately 15MW and would generate carbon-free electricity for more than 8,000 homes in the region.
Notes to Editors
- A copy of the Secretary of State’s decision is available from Coronation Power upon request. The main issues considered by the Planning Inspector and the Secretary of State included: the environmental benefit of the proposed wind farms, noise, highways and access, the effect on local water supplies and local ecology, as well as the landscape and visual impact.
- Information on both projects and Coronation Power’s other wind farm schemes in England can be found at www.coronationpower.com.
- Coronation Power has four other onshore wind farm projects with a total capacity of more than 60MW at various stages of development in Cornwall, Northumberland, Devon and Lancashire.
