TODMORDEN MOOR WIND FARM WINS COUNCIL'S APPROVAL

25th January 2011

Coronation Power has won planning consent from Calderdale Council for its five turbine wind farm on Todmorden Moor, between the Pennine towns of Todmorden and Bacup. The scheme, which was originally proposed in 2006, should enter commercial operation in 2012 subject to obtaining the necessary consents from the Department of the Environment (DEFRA). The Todmorden Moor wind farm will generate electricity for more than 10,000 homes in the Calderdale area.

Edward Romaine of Coronation Power said: "We are delighted with the Council's decision to approve the site. We have always felt that the site was ideal for a wind farm, and we were willing to modify our plans to address the concerns of the Planning Inspectorate when it reviewed our original application in 2009. We have enlarged the area of the wind farm in line with the Inspector's comments and are now liaising with the Department of Environment (DEFRA) to ensure that the amount of common land is maintained on the Moor."

The five turbines will generate up to 15MW of power. An application to the Department of Environment (DEFRA) with regard to the common land provision has been made by Coronation Power and is currently open for public consultation.
